AMERICA...land that I love. One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Just a part of our Pledge of Allegiance. Anyone know when ‘under God’ was added?
On July 4th this year, we celebrate the 241st year of our nation’s independence. Probably a lot of parties will be held, some barbeque, potato salad, baseball, fireworks, beer, picnics, and more. Parades will be everywhere. Daughters of the American Revolution, of which my wife is a member, will no doubt conduct some memorable events. Gravesites will be visited, remembering ancestors and honoring those who sacrificed their lives for the cause of freedom. All are appropriate.
Two memorable wars have been fought on our soil. The Revolutionary War that united thirteen colonies into one nation. The second one was the Civil War that sought to bring our nation together on one item, justice for all. Blood was shed in both. Not many families up to that time escaped being impacted by one or the other.
Both wars were intended to provide unity, freedom and peace. Along the way some or all of these have been accomplished or existed in some form at various times. What about today? Do you see unity? Are freedoms secure or are they being threatened and do you sense peace in our land?
I know my answers to these.
Yesterday, I was having lunch with one of my Christian brothers. He asked me a question. “Do you think there will be an America in fifty years?” What would you say in response to this? My initial reaction was; “it’ll depend on the church in America.”  Why do you say that, Bill? Because, believers have the revealed truth that will provide all three items: unityfreedom and peace. These are all wrapped up in whether the Body of Christ will repent, start being the church and become the vehicle for the answer to our current and future circumstances.
God is looking to us, his people. Many of you know that I wrote a book on this very subject. Revival of Repentance is based totally on one verse in the Old Testament. I still believe it applies today for America and its destiny as it did for Israel and its future then. II Chronicles is as clear as any verse you can ever read in scripture. Spoken by God, to God’s people, for God’s people. “If My people who are called by My name, will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and forgive their sin and heal their land” (vs. 7:14).
As we celebrate the bountiful blessings of this land (all provisions from God), let us reflect and act individually and corporately as families and as the church. God is looking to us-and would you think he just might hold us accountable, rather than some flawed politician? That politician may just be a result of the church’s abdication of its role in our country.
Whether America is around, is stronger or weaker, depends. Depends on the response of every believer comprising the church. We are an army. Are we conducting ourselves that way, or as unconcerned civilians? Onward Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before. YES! He’s the answer. None other!
He is our nation’s answer as to whether we survive and prosper fifty more years, or until he returns, which just might be earlier. We have to collapse the walls of the church, and march triumphantly into our neighborhoods and beyond, even into our schools and government, taking the gospel message wherever we go.
Lest we misunderstand the seriousness God places on our decision of ‘if’, you only have to read vss. 19-21 in II Chronicles 7. I’ll leave you to do that. It begins with “But if“. Use your imagination!
I believe God is not through with the church in America. But you have to decide if you are through with him. Psalm 33:12 speaks to us here in this land known as America. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. The people He has chosen as His own inheritance.” And can we declare as did the Psalmist? “Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name. Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, just as we hope in You” (vss. 20-22).
Church, the decision is yours to make. Which ‘if’ will it be? May God give you the wisdom and strength to make the right decision–and may God bless America! Happy 4th of July!
America, what will we miss while we are sleeping Will Jesus come again And leave us slumbering where we lay America, will we go down in history As a nation with no room for its King Will we be sleeping Will we be sleeping   United States of America Looks like another silent night.
