INDEPENDENCE…is always costly.  It is freedom from the control, influence, support, or aid of others. Some men or women want to have their independence from a marital relationship. Most of the divorces are very costly, even more than financial. Adam and Eve seemed to be seeking independence from God as they chose to listen to Satan and disobey God in the Garden. Man, was that ever costly for all of us since then! Space exploration is founded on the ability to have freedom from Earth’s gravity.  For centuries, slaves have sought to gain independence from ruthless masters.
I was spending time today, July 4, 2016, our 240th anniversary of gaining independence from England reflecting on the price that was paid then, in lives and money. And how many millions of men and women have spilled their blood to maintain our freedom.  Perhaps like you, I have always felt so blessed to be born in this great nation founded on God’s principles. America, God has certainly “shed His grace on thee”. And as I reflected, I sensed a deep and convicting responsibility to God and those who fought and died to provide this amazing and unmerited grace. I/we should be compelled to do whatever it takes to ensure that what has been provided is not lost, and is available to the next generations.
For some reason I was led to re-read my book, Revival of Repentance, over the past week.  I am also in the middle of reading The Daniel Prayer by Anne Graham Lotz. She makes a strong case that this prayer can move heaven and change nations. I agree!  Can’t wait to finish it.  My book was written at the urging of God’s Spirit concerning 2 Chronicles 7:14.  With all my heart I believe that we, you and I as believers, hold in our hands the keys to the future of this great nation.
“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective” (Jas. 5:16b).
2 Chronicles 7:14 says; “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” A few years ago a pastor in Washington DC shared a statement with me and others that has impacted my prayer life significantly. He said; “you do know that God runs his universe through the prayers of his people“. Let that sink in!  If you believe this, your prayer life will never be the same again. But the real issue is-“if”. If I, if we will take these sobering commands to heart, then God will do his part. But “if not”, who will we have to blame but ourselves?
For every $25 donation to Abiding Fathers during July, we will send you a signed copy of Bill’s book, Revival of Repentance.
Our independence from our sinful self, the world system and Satan was assured on the cross of Calvary. Consider the cost! Jesus’ very life! He said, “it is finished”.  What does that mean? That his grace is now sufficient for all our needs; as a person, family and nation. Will we take hold of it? Or will we continue to enjoy his common grace here in America, with no effort to bring healing to our country that is in a mess of trouble in every way? How big is your God, how trustworthy is his word, how badly do you want our nation to survive and prosper and to be a light set on a hill? Commit today to act on 2 Chronicles 7:14. I agree with Anne;
“I believe it is time to pray like Daniel. Now.” I beseech you to join Anne and me and countless others while it is still time.
Send me a note if you have committed or recommitted yourself to praying like Daniel for his nation. Thank you.
