SEX…is a very private and intimate subject; but here goes! No, I am not trying to improve my ratings! It is unarguably the most thought of and talked about subject in the universe, right next to money. From the very first order of creation, Almighty God made this a topic of great importance. Since the fall by our first sexually driven soul mates (Adam and Eve), it has developed into something that it was not intended to become. God said to make man (male and female) in His image. And then He instructed them to procreate; you know, have babies! And He has always determined whether they are boy or girl. After He finished the creation He declared it was good, even very good.

Parenthetically, I wonder what He thinks of cloning and stem cell research? When you go to a doctor’s office, one of the form questions is: Male___ Female___. Never have I seen Undecided___!

Our last life lesson addressed the fact we were made in His image. He made man; declared that it was not right for him to be alone. Adam was put to sleep and the female side of him was removed, repaired and restored. Needless to say, Adam was pleased. He called her woman, flesh of my flesh, and gave her a name, Eve. Right about now, Adam must have been stoked. Because when God makes something, it is beautiful, if not glorious. It says they were naked but not ashamed.

Salt&Pepper Last week my grandson and I were dining at our table. We have a set of chicken salt and pepper shakers. I pointed out to Will that the rooster was identified by his tall red comb and prominent tail feathers; and the hen was usually shorter and has a smaller comb. She lays the eggs! Then the thought struck me; would anyone ever want to develop a sex change on either of these? The rooster has his role and place in the coop, and so does the hen. Why? God made them that way. Nor would a farmer decide that he would separate all his chickens into roosters and hens. No more baby chickens would be the result. Call me if you don’t understand.

‘So God created man in his own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female he created them. Then God blessed them, and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion…”‘ (Gen. 1:27-28a). When mankind starts monkeying with the order of the creation for whatever reason, without His blessing and influence, the result is disorder and dysfunction.

During the flood in Noah’s time, God preserved His created beings from total destruction. God provided an ark, built from His design, by man. It worked! And how did He preserve the living beings? “And they went into the ark to Noah, two by two, of all flesh in which is the breath of life. So those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him; and the Lord shut him in” (Gen. 7:15-16).

Go no farther than Song of Solomon to see how God ordained sex and made it between man and woman. Read the intimate messages. The Beloved says; “Behold, you are fair, my love! Behold, you are fair! You have dove’s eyes.” The Shulamite responds; “Behold, you are handsome, my beloved! Yes, pleasant!” (Song of Sol. 1:15-16). That is just for warm-ups! A man and his woman is shown, madly in love with each other; natural love springing from the Creator. You simply cannot improve on or re-legislate it!

All this leads us to reflect on the love Christ, the Bridegroom, has for His bride, the Church. “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her.” “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.” (Eph. 5:22,25). There can be brotherly love and sisterly love, but according to scripture the union for marriage is indisputable. It’s all about one man and one woman together forever. It is His masterful design; to love, procreate and have dominion over the earthly creation. It’s a beautiful thing.

We, the Bride of Christ, should be found daily running into His arms, intimately embracing Him. And our reaction should match Adam’s at his first glimpse of Eve–WOW!!! Amazing!!!

In Revelation we see the ultimate marriage. “Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband” (vs. 21:2). That will be some wedding feast!

The rooster arises early and crows loudly. He’s excited about what the day holds and Rooster the hens are more than ready to enter in. Happy hens produce lots of eggs and chicks. Do you rise up the same way each day? Since we are told that the bridegroom, Jesus, is coming back for His bride, I might ask; are you ready to meet Him? Will you be excited or ashamed, crowing or hiding?
