WATER…is essential to every form of earthly life. Without it things perish. Water is the main component of the human body. It represents on average 60% of the body weight in adult men, and 50-55% in women. Water is distributed throughout the body and organs. The water content of various organs depends on their composition, and ranges from 83% in blood to only 10% in adipose tissue. Fascinating! And some think humankind evolved from some lower form of species. I vote for an all-intelligent God.
Joanne and I were fascinated on our trip to Israel. The incredible engineering to get water to villages from miles away, even to places on mountaintops, was amazing. It seemed everywhere we visited, we were shown how water was provided and its importance to survival and prosperity.
Last week, I was working on the patio enjoying the brilliant day. I was looking out over the golf course and was mesmerized by the fountain spray next to the 18th hole. Of course, I have seen it multiple times but on this day this water feature spoke to me in a new way. There was something ‘living‘ about it, not just a water fountain. As the water sprayed into the air and fell beautifully on the lake, I got a sense that it was alive.
I got up and took several photos from different angles. One is shown here. Ducks and one white heron were feeding in the water and along the banks. Life was moving along normally. But in the middle of all this was the ‘fountain of living water‘. At that moment my mind became focused on the Lord and what he said several times about himself while on earth.
“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said,
rivers of living water will flow from within them”
(Jn. 7:38 NIV).
As you and I as believers move about our day, mostly in our normal routines, there is a living water presence at the center of our lives. Do we always recognize it, or even take time to acknowledge it? Probably not, but he is there nonetheless. Just as our human bodies are functioning well, with water flowing through our systems, so too are our spiritual lives doing the same from the ‘living water‘ flowing through our minds, hearts and souls. It’s what sustains us andgives us the power to live victoriously. Without this ‘Source’, we perish, or simply become ineffective.
During the summer I have to water the beautiful plants almost daily or they wither and die. And as they droop from the intense heat, it is amazing to see them spring to life minutes after they receive the life giving water. With us, we need the refreshment of his living water. From his word even in our prayer life, His Spirit refreshes us–DAILY! The issues of life are like the intense sun to the plants. Joanne reminds me often to water them deeply. Likewise, we need to drink deeply from the ‘Fountain of Life‘. It will never run dry, unlike earthly water.
Jesus answered the Samaritan woman at the well when asked about the water about which he was telling her. “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life” (Jn. 4:13-14 NIV).
Are you drinking daily from ‘His Well’ or are you simply battling the ‘heat’ of life’s issues with only an earthly canteen? Your canteen will eventually run dry; His won’t! I am grateful that God drew me to this patio and gave me eyes to see. Aren’t you?
